Democratic Education Training – PBW

Training on Democratic Education: Awareness of Bias and Sensitivity to Discrimination in Day Nurseries, Childcare Centers and Family Day Care
In this one-day training course, you will explore democratic education for children aged 0 to 6. You will take a closer look at prejudice, stereotyping and power dynamics in your everyday educational work. You will also learn how these factors influence whether and how children can participate in decision-making.
This will help you further develop a bias-aware and discrimination-sensitive approach. This approach is the foundation for enabling children aged 0 to 6 to experience democratic education.
You can take part in this training if you work with children aged 0 to 6 as an early childhood educator in a childcare center, nursery or family day care setting.
Contents:
How belonging, prejudice and categorization influence your educational practice
How children are disadvantaged through structural exclusion from participation and what this means for their education
How to apply concepts of diversity, bias awareness and sensitivity to discrimination in practice
Trainer Olan Scott Pinto holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies. He is also a sexuality educator and anti-discrimination advisor at the counseling center “Respect Kids!”. His focus is on discrimination in early childhood.
