Advice for / Representing the interests of disabled people – LAG

You can access information and advice on the topic of disability at “Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Selbsthilfe behinderter Menschen Bremen e.V.“. Advice is provided to disabled people, those with chronic health conditions and mental illnesses and their relatives.

For instance, advice topics include:

  • Being recognised as a severely disabled person/having special arrangements made for you
  • Living with a disability
  • Funding and organising assistance and care
  • Housing and assisted living arrangements
  • Education at schools and universities, vocational training and work
  • Social relationships and leisure time
  • Excerpt from the parental home
  • Aids
  • Help with living costs/basic insurance
  • Social and workplace inclusion
  • Legal support
  • Pensions
  • Self-help

Most of the full-time and voluntary counsellors have a disability themselves and are therefore very good at understanding the problems. The association endeavours to provide barrier-free advice and can also organise interpreting into foreign languages or German sign language, if you let us know before the consultation. If you are unable to come to a counselling centre, a counsellor may also come to your home or accommodation.

“Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Selbsthilfe behinderter Menschen Bremen e.V.“ is an association of organisations which seeks to provide disabled people with self-help tools in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The umbrella association works politically and with events and actions against discrimination and for the equality of people with disabilities.
