Whoever wants to work voluntarily with refugees and needs a first orientientation, can now find support at the “Bürgertelefon” (phone for citizens). The aim is to make the access to institutions easier as well as to organise the voluntary work with refugees.
Most of the time, the “Bürgertelefon” won’t answer inquiries directly, but will transfer to a knowledgable contact person. These will mainly be the overall co-ordinators for voluntary commitment in the refugee sector, who are put into place by the “AWO” (Arbeiterwohlfahrt) in the city regions Centre, West, East, South and North. They are in contact with als the accomodations for asylum seekers, know the needs there and can allocate purposefully donations and projects. More specific inquiries can be transfered to – depending on the issue – to Fluchtraum e.V., the SOS-Kinderdorf Bremen, to Serve the City e.V. or other organisations.
